So this holiday season/break I wanted to do alot more art and stuff. Unfortunately, there were a number of extenuating circumstances and art once again got put on the back burner. but 2 weeks and a new computer tower later, I finally got back into the swing of it. Hopefully the new year will be more art-permitting lol. Anyways, I wish you all a wonderful and festive holiday season and thanks for your support!

Photogenic Friends
So I did a series recently that featured some good friends of mine. I have to do an assignment where I want to include a photo series into my explanation. Though these are not the actual assignment photos, I thought these were some of the best. Thanks so much to the models that participated in this. Anyways, enjoy!

Within the Moment
After looking at the wonderful portfolio of Drew Struzan (The artist who did movie posters for Star Wars, Indianna Jones, Harry Potter etc.), there was one image on his website that really stuck out for me; its actually one of the first images that you see when you go to his site. Its an image of himself in this very intense moment... like the calm before the storm, we see the great artist in this pose where he's about to paint something. That pose is something quite monumental for a painter such as myself (I say that with the least amount of cocky-ness lol). Its a pose where your in that moment of excitement and hesitation... of technicality and expression... of structure and sheer spontaneity... all interwoven into one gesture of the body.
Could this be something of a self-portrait maybe? Yea you could say that. I do like the 18th-19th century painters, and I also miss and love my long hair and beard haha. Anyways, enjoy!

Sketchin' Around
So after a week-long session of work, I finally get the opportunity to sit down and sketch out something. The Assassin's Creed project is still on my mind (as you can kinda tell), but what i'll probably do is post more sketches now post more sketches here and there of whatever comes to my mind. I still have some more Assassin's Creed ideas that I want to try and get on the electronic canvas, but right now sketches will be the bulk of my summer works. Oh and i'll still be taking photos here and there and posting them on my other website dealy. Anyways, enjoy!

Photo-break
So over the past few days, I was sketching out some ideas for this Assassin's Creed thing i'm doing with Mike, and being overwhelmed with all of it, I decided to turn to photography for a bit. I'm hoping to post some more picture on my photo site, but i'm still in the process of organizing some sessions, and taking care of other stuff as well. So until then, Assassin's Creed pictures lol. Anyways, enjoy!

New Photography Site!!!
Hey Everyone,
So over the past week i've been creating a new site to exclusively show my digital photography. I wanted to have a site that looked more professional, so I thought i'd give it a try and see how it goes. I still will be posting some photos here, but the majority of my photography work will got to this new site. Here's the link
www.wix.com/joelmw/photography
I know its not my own site (like joel.com or something), but I feel like its a good start. Anyways, enjoy!

GIMPin' it up
So after looking at some amazing painting tutorials on Youtube, I came across a program that many of these digital aritsts use. Since i'm JUST getting into digital painting, I never heard of GIMP till this morning. For me, its like a Photoshop and Painter hybrid. After doing this sketch, I found the experience to be quite enjoyable. Oh and its free! And thats always good.

Shots of Milne Park
Above is some shots that I took of a park near my house. I was lucky enough to have my more powerful lens with me, ergo I was able to take better shots of the birds (always wanted to use "ergo" in a sentence lol). I hope to shot more shots of this park someday, hopefully with models or something. Enjoy!

Reworking the past
So I was looking at some old art I did and I came across a drawing that I did (in like Gr. 2) of this woman who was standing in a cemetary before a sea of tombstones (I think it was suppose to be Flander's field). I kinda liked the picture, but instead of showcasing this figure mourning, I thought I'd show the figure on his/her own path of such... and for some reason it came out to be an earthy tone path lol. Also, I think I developed an interest in the pencil crayon "brush" in Painter. Anyways, Enjoy!

Something out of the dark
So I know I havent posted a digital work in a while, so I thought of showing this. This is just one of many sketches that I am doing for a project that I am embarking on with my buddy Mike Sekowski (who is a very talented concept artist I may add. Check him out in the "Links" section of my blog). So we were going to do something centered around a game that we both like, and judging by this image, you can probably take an educated guess as to what game it is. I'm hoping to do a whole lot more works that are centered around this project, and maybe even come up with a storyline...will see. Enjoy!

Playing with knives...electronically
This work was inspired by the great Bob Ross. I use to watch his show ALL-THE-TIME. He's actually one of the reasons why I got into art (painting in particular). So in one of his videos, he used the palette knife to create these beautiful mountainscape scenes, so I thought I try that as well. Enjoy!

Monk by the.... Canyon?
So this is my first real shot at doing a digital painting. I was trying to reproduce an German Romantic artist that I really admire (Casper David Friedrich), but it seemed to go down another route lol. I know up-close its very grainy, so I will fix that next time. With this I hope to do more digital work in the months to come. Enjoy!

Almost There...
So i'm almost done school and I can't wait to do some more art. I was thinking about diving into some more digital work, like digital painting and stuff... cuz at the end of a four-year visual arts program, your house becomes filled with ALOT of canvases lol. I'll probably just paint some of them if anything. Anyways, enjoy!
